Three Essential Behaviors Needed in an Uncomfortable Business Climate

We have all witnessed at some point in our lives via our own experiences or that of others that being comfortable in our careers is a thing of the past. What I mean by comfort is the feeling that you don’t need to challenge yourself, be open to new opportunities or continuously expand your skill set. So in a new environment where the expectation of change and growth is essential, how do we stay on top of it all? There are three essential behaviors you need to begin practicing ASAP in order to prepare yourself for any change that will come.

Adaptable to change The ability to quickly adapt to change whether it was expected or not is critical to success. Regardless, you should make sure to remain positive and focus on what specific changes need to be made in order for you to succeed in a new role, company or change in procedure.

Willingness to continuously learn There is an opportunity to learn from everyone and every experience as long as you are open to it. Because of the fast pace that technology, mindsets and behaviors are changing, the need to keep up with that pace is critical to staying current on what changes you need to make in order to stay relevant.

Ability to connect with others Connecting with other people provides you with new insights that can assist you in your current position or prepare you for a new one. I define connecting as an authentic attempt at learning or assisting someone. There is an opportunity to learn from everyone we connect with that is inclusive of their experiences, successes and failures.

We cannot control every change that comes our way and therefore continuously practicing these behaviors will set you up for success in every scenario. Change is scary, especially when it comes to your career but if you proactively remain present and active, it will help you consistently bounce back.
